Mark Hoekstra

Mark Hoekstra works at the Rotterdam branch...

…and has been active in the field of investigation since 1990. Mark has been active in the specialist area of Forensic IT investigation since 1999. Mark is a certified forensic IT specialist and has successfully rounded off various police training programmes amongst which are criminal investigation & legislation and environmental crime. Mark has honed a vast pool of investigative experience, especially in the fields of bankruptcy investigation, complex e-discovery investigation and (inter)national fraud investigation. Mark plays an active role in the putting in place of norms for forensic IT investigation at the European and global levels.

Whilst working for the regional crime squad, Mark routinely investigated cases of major (organised) and financial- economic crime. Mark co-owned various Forensic (IT) investigation organizations, amongst which was IRS and worked for clients like the Netherlands Competition Authority, the European Commission, numerous investigative services and the Bar, in his capacity as forensic IT expert. He is also visiting lecturer at various foreign universities. Mark joined Grant Thornton on 1 September 2010 as partner.

From our Rotterdam branche, Mark directs a core team of forensic accountants and forensic IT/e-discovery experts together with colleague & partner Peter Schimmel. A number of high-profiled cases in the course of which Mark was brought in, in the course of time involved construction fraud, the bankruptcy of The Entertainment Group, the bankruptcy of KPN-Qwest and a host of other high-profiled cases that have been mentioned by name.
